Reference Clerk

Reference Clerk - Bridgeview Public Library

Job Title: Reference Clerk

FT/PT: Part Time

Hours: 15-19 hours per week. Must be available days, evenings and weekends. Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat 10-6 Tue & Thurs 12-8.

Salary: $12.00 per hour

Position Description: 

The Bridgeview Public Library is seeking a friendly, motivated, energetic, customer service oriented person to provide reference assistance at our Reference desk.  Top candidates will possess:

•A proactive attitude and be insightful to the patrons' needs

•Extensive customer service skills and a passion for working with the public

•A forward thinking and adaptable working style

•The ability to work with a strong team, but can accomplish tasks independently

•A strong, self-starting initiative and follow through

•Competent time management skills

•Flexible schedule

Duties include reference and readers’ advisory, assisting patrons with internet and computer tasks, instructing patrons how to use library computer catalog, library databases, and e-reader downloading services, updating library website, taking reserve requests; placing and trapping local holds and completing interlibrary loan transactions, preparing displays, flyers, and publicity materials, moderating a book club, and facilitating Adult Programming events.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required.  Previous or current public library experience will be highly considered.  Sirsi Dynix experience a plus!

Previous work experience with the public, advanced computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft products, Internet searching, database searching, and email usage including creating new email accounts and opening and attaching documents, familiarity with social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google +, etc., library experience a plus.  Must be available to work days, evenings and weekends.
